Time Line Therapy™ (TLT) is a powerful therapeutic process that evolved from hypnosis and NLP, developed by Tad James, PhD in the 1980s. It was developed by applying a therapeutic process to the notion that we store our memories in a linear manner (like a timeline). Simply put, this timeline is a mental photo album of our life.
Most people will understand the term “emotional baggage" which is sometimes used to describe past traumatic and negative emotional experiences in life, career, or relationships. These negative emotions can be powerful, producing unwanted stress on your body and mind with a potential to lead to health issues.
Feeling emotions is part of being human and our emotional state affects our behaviour. The Unconscious Mind is the intelligence of the body, e.g. digesting your food, circulating your blood, controlling your glands, breathing when you're asleep, all things we do without being aware of thinking about doing them. The Unconscious Mind experiences the negative emotions that we hold and are not 'in the moment'.
TLT provides a powerful process and technique for personal change and growth by expediting the removal of painful emotions (anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt) attached to memories or events in the past. Through TLT you set in motion a beneficial feedback loop and, as you remove the chains of negative emotions accumulated in your body’s memories from past events, it helps provide an easier time when dealing with any negativity life may throw at you. TLT also focuses on learning from those events in order for those learnings to be utilised by your mind as a resource in the future.
TLT also clears any limiting beliefs that can leave you stuck in the past, preventing you from creating what you really want in your life. Unwanted negative emotions and limiting beliefs can influence all areas of our lives.
Examples of limiting beliefs are, "I don’t deserve it” or, “I am just not good enough”.
Letting go of negative emotions from the past can help you think and behave differently. Being free of negative emotions is also a fantastic way to optimise your mind and body health.
TLT releases emotions from its roots which then allow you to experience lasting results. Our memories are our personal history and TLT only clears the negative emotions attached to the memories.
It's important to note that TLT should not be confused with another technique called Time Line. This is also based on NLP but is very different from Time Line Therapy™. Dr. Tad James
