What is Life Coaching & how does it work?
Life coaching is having someone who is professionally trained to assist you in maximising your full potential and to help you to achieve your life goals.
The perfect or ideal work-life balance is a perpetual quest for many of us and life can and does throw up many challenges. These can sometimes feel overwhelming and can cause an imbalance in that problematic segment of our life.
Life coaching can help clear out negative thoughts. This in turn will assist you to regain more confidence and to reframe and approach problems differently and more positively. Life coaching will help you to rebalance and continue on your life journey towards becoming a better version of you.
Life coaching will challenge and push you into identifying your true goals in life, focusing on the present and the future, empowering you as well as holding you accountable. This is achieved through your coach asking you the right questions, communicating effectively with you and enabling you to focus on your aspirations in life. Through this exploration you may find that the real problem is not what you first thought it was.
One of the primary reasons to gain the help of a life coach is to have someone holding you accountable to the goals you are setting yourself. Often, we believe that we are setting ourselves great goals, both personally and professionally. However, life gets in the way and goals can dissipate or get kicked into touch. Our support and guidance includes clarity around achievable action plans.
A life coach can help break down and prioritise your goals into smaller more achievable chunks and, at the same time, be there to support your journey and, of course, praise you on your subsequent achievement!
Our role as coaches is to combine the picture of reality with an ambitious move towards an agreed goal.
Coaching starts from a place of possibility and initially your coach will listen to what you have to say in order for the right questions to be asked. This helps to identify barriers and limiting beliefs which may be holding you back from achieving your goals.
Your coach will work with you to elicit your values and to discover what motivates you. Intrinsic values (core beliefs) are unconscious and relate to such things as family, health, happiness, career, freedom, fairness, self-acceptance and creativity, to name but a few. They are our compass for life, although we tend to make decisions based on our conscious values, the ones of which we are aware and think about.
Using the GROW model (below), we will establish agreed goals and discuss the path needed to be taken as well as uncovering any ‘blockers’ preventing those goals from being realised. Your coach will ensure that the goals you set are aligned with core values.

When it comes to ‘blockers’, our coaches, who are Certified NLP Coach & Practitioners & Certified Practitioners of Time Line Therapy™, can utilise various NLP techniques and strategies designed to help clear any inhibitors.
Finally, you and your coach will set challenging and achievable goals in the form of an action plan, the steps required and how and when those steps will be taken. You will be prepared for potential obstacles and plan how to deal with them.
Throughout the process your coach will continually provide commitment, support, encouragement, inspiration and feedback in order to refine the approach where necessary and to ensure success.
